Our annual essay contest honors Mary Frances Kensinger, for her years of service as a member of the Five Cities Optimist Club of Grover Beach. She served as the Chairwoman of our club’s Essay contest for many years and taught elementary grades at St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Arroyo Grande. “Mrs. K” remembered every student she ever taught and thought that the troublemakers were the most fun. It has been said that Fran had a gift for making everyone feel valued and loved.
She spoke every language of the human heart.
The Five Cities Optimists are proud to honor Fran’s legacy and strive to continue her advocacy for critical writing skills and provoking introspective thought in the students of our community.

Also, if you would submit the cover page and the essay as two separate .pdf’s
it would help me in organizing all the essays for the Judges.
No Word docs (different versions of Word = changed formatting),
nothing through Google Docs (permissions, etc…)
and a Word Doc through Google docs…don’t even go there.
Do Not use your School email account!
Please use one personal email account or set up an essay account (Gmail , Yahoo etc).
Be sure to read the rules on the application AND FOLLOW THEM.
One or more missed formatting points can make a difference.
